Things a Caregiver Learned About Life

THINGS I LEARNED ABOUT BEING A HOUSEKEEPER

There is only so much time so do what you have to and either forget the other stuff or pay someone to do it.
Plan meals that you can actually cook
Buy stuff for those meals carefully and in advance and from a list
Woman shoppers will help if you look helpless and vulnerable
Have a plan for meals but keep emergency rations for when you’re just too beat to cook.

THINGS I LEARNED ABOUT MY WIFE WHILE LEARNING ABOUT BEING A HOUSEKEEPER

Leave her alone to do the things that she can do; it makes her feel good and who cares if it takes a long time.
Absolutely do not criticize how she does anything.
What she is able to do is worth any kind of prescription medicine
Feel bad every once in a while so she can take over a little.
She cannot interpret behavior well so giving her a hug and a kiss every hour or so keeps her understanding that you’re not angry and so love her.

THINGS I LEARNED ABOUT MYSELF WHILE LEARNING ABOUT BEING A HOUSEKEEPER AND ABOUT MY WIFE

Being impatient is just wrong, she won’t understand and it’s selfish
Keep the house full of whatever she likes to eat
Try to anticipate what will upset her and either fix it, buy it or hide it.
No games, no manipulation unless it’s to get her to do things that are good for her like take her medicine
Keep on asking patiently until she is willing to do what she needs to do; she won’t learn lessons from not doing something
Do what she asks as much as you can
If you don’t understand just smile and say OK

Do the best you can right now, who knows what tomorrow will be like.
